This week marks the third anniversary of the South Lake Tahoe area Angora Fire. Residents and officials alike have been alert for suspicious fires in our community. At approximately 7:15 am, Police and Fire responded to the meadow behind the residential subdivision of Pioneer Village, east of Al Tahoe Boulevard, after a resident reported a suspicious fire.

Emergency personnel arrived on scene to find an uncontrolled fire approximately ten feet square, with one foot high flames. The fire was burning in a wooded and brushy area, only one hundred feet away from the houses adjacent to the meadow.

Police located an intoxicated 22 year old transient, Luke Dons, sleeping on the ground approximately twenty feet away from the fire. Upon investigation Dons confessed to starting the fire, without explaining any reason why. South Lake Tahoe Police Officer Matt Morrison arrested Luke Dons for Arson. The fire caused no damage to private property. There were no associated injuries to anyone. The South Lake Tahoe Fire Department extinguished the flames. Luke Dons was booked into the El Dorado County Jail on $40,000 bail.
