ATTEMPTED CHILD ABDUCTION BY STRANGER

Early Friday evening, 1-15-2010, just before 6:00pm, officers responded to a report of an attempted abduction of a 10 year old boy by a stranger in the area of Eloise Avenue and Third Street in South Lake Tahoe. The suspect was described as a thin white male adult with a tan complexion. He is about 5’-8” to 5’-10” tall, with medium length brown hair spiked in the front, and a trimmed goatee. The suspect was driving a white full sized pick up truck, late 1990’s model, with an extended or crew cab and a black bug shield.

The 10 year old boy was riding his bicycle with two of his friends, of similar ages. The suspect drove in front of the boy and used the truck to block the boy’s path. The victim stopped and immediately began to back up and turn his bicycle around. The suspect quickly got out of his truck and lunged at the boy in an attempt to grab hold of him. The victim was able to pedal his bicycle away from the suspect, who had unsuccessfully grasped the back of the boy’s shirt. The suspect returned to his truck and tried to overtake the boy on his bicycle. The victim escaped by riding his bicycle off the roadway and through various alleys and business parking lots in this area. The victim and his two friends witnessed the suspect drive around the area, apparently searching for the victim, for the next one to two minutes.

Neither the victim nor his friends knew the suspect. As the crime occurred at dusk, and took the young boy by surprise, it was difficult for the victim to provide a complete description of the suspect and vehicle. The below photograph depicts a vehicle similar to the type described by the victim. It is NOT the actual truck.
